Long term client the Southern Alexandrina Business Association (SABA) was ready for an update to their website and member directory. They wanted a more dynamic website with clear navigation to direct viewers throughout the site to relevant content. A fully searchable and categorised members directory was also requested

Design

We met with Greg and Mel of gthink Studio Design to talk through the requirements of the new website and it’s functionality and then left the design concept creation in their capable hands. gthink Studio Design developed a modern, engaging look for the website with multiple link options to catch visitors attention.

Development

From gthink Studio Design's design we styled and configured a mobile responsive theme. Some key website features include:

  • Mobile responsive theme
  • Scrolling home page banner
  • Multiple page templates
  • News page configuration
  • Calendaring system
  • Full Directory of members and businesses
  • Custom block for page links

Custom block for page links

The home page design features a series of Quick Links to important inner pages. The idea of this section was to be able to update and change to reflect the key information SABA is wishing to highlight.

To keep this area fully flexible we developed a custom block that allows the font size of individual words, line heights and spacing to be configured for each individual block. This way font sizes can be adjusted to re-flow for the various word lengths and heights desired.

Calendar System / News

As the SABA website is an information platform for members and the public, an easy to use and clear calendar system was essential. We implemented out Easy Calendar for concrete5 add-on. This system uses a clear form to add an event and publish it across the website. Event dates can then be displayed in a full calendar view or a styled event list, depending on client preference.

We implemented an inbuilt concrete5 page creation tool called Composer to handle News item creation. Similarly to the Calendar, a one off form is completed to create the news item which can then be automatically published and displayed across the site.

Data Import

We developed the previous SABA website, so knew the importance of the content, particularly the members directory. This large bulk of content would have been time consuming to cut and paste into the website, so instead we scripted a bulk import of the data. By matching the attribute names and page types, we were able to move the member data in one large import, effective and practical.
