The Afghanistan Avenue of Honour
The Afghanistan Avenue of Honour website is to honour the fallen in Afghanistan and provide information about the memorial in Yungaburra, Queensland.
This website was designed by James Leech, who worked closely with the Avenue of Honour committee to create a clear and respectful design. James created a design that captured the significance of the memorial and subject matter, whilst being flexible for the range of different multimedia and imagery presented. James invited us to be a part of the design process, with us being privy to the finer considerations such as the selection of typography and colours.
Website purpose
The website was designed to act as an information platform, providing details about the memorial such as the site's history and layout, it's location and upcoming events. The site also includes a series of photo galleries that include photos of the site's construction, it's opening and memorial events. Images from future events will be added as galleries to the site as visual records.
Of upmost significance is the site's honour roll, individually recognising the Australian soldiers that have lost their lives in Afghanistan. It is also in memory of those that have been wounded or injured, and the explosion detective dogs that have also lost their lives whilst in service.
Mobile usage
A major consideration for this website was that we envisaged that it would often be accessed by visitors on mobile phones whilst at the memorial itself. The site was therefore designed to be highly mobile responsive and effective across a wide range of devices.
